More than a Gigawatt Per Day!

The installation rate for solar power across the globe has skyrocketed, and that is very good news! The industry is now turning on more than a gigawatt of solar every single day. That is like building and starting a new nuclear or natural gas power plant every day, somewhere in the world.

In mature markets like California where solar and batteries are reaching critical mass, the benefits are becoming quite clear. The state was able to reduce natural gas for electricity production by 25% last year! That is a massive reduction in a such a large state with significant energy loads. As Bill McKibben notes, solar and wind are now the cheapest power sources on earth, and as he says they're now the Costco of cheap energy, and more and more people are buying.
