The Amazement Phase

I recently read a post on LinkedIn from Paul Browning where he coined the term "amazement phase" to describe the exponential growth that we are seeing in solar, wind, energy storage, and electric vehicles. He uses the term "amazement" because we are often amazed by exponential growth when we see it and its hard for our human brains to comprehend how quickly such changes can occur.

While the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts the world will hit the peak of fossil fuel usage for electricity generation in 2026, Browning thinks it will actually happen this year. He makes his predictions based on extrapolation of the installation data for solar and wind over the past two decades. He highlights the fact that the IEA has under-estimated the growth of solar and wind every year for the past decade.

As we enter the Amazement Phase be prepared to be surprised by how quickly renewables displace fossil fuels on the grid, and be ready to find the job you want in clean energy!
