Utility Scale Commercial & Industrial Solar and Storage 101
Description
This course provides a comprehensive overview of what utilities need to know when accepting proposals for commercial and industrial energy storage systems. It covers the basics of available technologies and focuses on the benefits of energy storage for both commercial users and utilities. By the end, participants will have a solid understanding of how these systems work and why they are valuable, particularly when integrated with renewable energy.
The course dives into important aspects like storage system design, battery applications, and integration with renewable energy systems. It includes presentations from specific manufacturers, giving participants a real-world perspective on available technologies. Additionally, the course touches on operation and maintenance (O&M) issues, security, and the various business models involved in energy storage. As a capstone project, students will have the opportunity to develop and present a proposal for a solar-plus-storage project, applying what they’ve learned.
Upon completion, participants will be able to define and explain how commercial and industrial energy storage systems (C&IES) operate, size systems correctly, and recommend solutions that meet the goals of both business owners and utility administrators. The course also covers financial benefits, safety procedures, and best practices for integrating renewable energy into storage systems. This is the first in a two-course series, and completing both provides 70 advanced NABCEP hours, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to deepen their expertise in utility-scale energy storage.
